Mar Lan Construction was chosen as the construction manager for this 24,480 square foot addition to the McFarlane Aviation manufacturing facility. It is located near Vinland and Baldwin City, Kansas.
The building envelope is comprised of IPS (Insulated Panel System) wall panels which contain a 2-1/2” foam core panel along with the Simple Saver roof insulation system. Altogether this provides a superior R-value to the building closure. An extra layer of comfort, as well as natural daylight, is provided by the placement of window units and a clerestory window system of translucent polycarbonate panels on the south elevation. Sunshades are provided on the window units as a heat gain/loss strategy.
The addition itself includes offices, a break room, warehousing, shipping, production areas and support offices/rooms, and an exercise and shower facility that doubles as a storm shelter.
The project also required expansive sitework to tie the new building into the existing facility by way of connector buildings. A new entrance was created to the site, new stormwater plan, expanded sanitary lateral field, detention pond, concrete drives and parking lots, an extension of the grass runway and landscaping to accent the buildings.
